FAQs

Just a Farmer

Filmed in Tatyoon, just outside of Ararat. Just a Farmer is a 22024 independent Australian drama set in rural Victoria that follows a newly widowed mother named Alison trying to manage a failing farm and her alcoholic father-in-law after her husband dies by suicide.

Written, produced, and starring rural Victorian local Leila McDougall, the 103-minute feature was directed by Simon Lyndon. It aims to break the stigma surrounding rural mental health, showcase the hidden struggles of farming communities, and highlight the trauma carried by families left behind.

Australian Story

Rowena from Creative Ararat worked with ABC producer Alexander to get his filming permit over the line, as well as connect him with a local Council-owned venue for filming and local historian Marion.

The result was a marvellous episode of ABC’s Australian Story featuring local farmer Rob Armstrong.
